Gerardo del Valle is an award-winning Director and Producer based in New York City. His work explores the people behind the headlines and the repercussions of policy decisions on communities.
He studied Communications and Media at Universidad Rafael Landívar in Guatemala and has a Master’s in Journalism from the City University of New York. He is a Firelight Documentary Lab Fellow and an SFFilm Foundation New American Fellow. The International Documentary Association (IDA) and the Sundance Institute have supported his work.
Starting his career as a video journalist at Plaza Pública, Guatemala's first investigative online newspaper, he’s since worked on long-form documentaries and web-based projects and collaborated with Vice, Univision, the BBC, Agencia Efe, and NBC. He is currently a Film Producer and Visual Journalist at ProPublica.
His work has garnered acclaim from institutions such as the Emmy and Livingston Awards (2026), the P.O.Y. Awards and the National Press Photographers of America (2025), and the Fundación Gabo (2019), among others.
